THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICANS TO SERVE IN THE U.S. MARINE CORPS
We are a charitable non-profit 501 (c)(3) Veterans Service Organization founded in 1965, dedicated to honoring the legacy of the first African Americans Marines who trained at the Montford Point Camp, New River, North Carolina between 1942 and 1949. Despite facing racial segregation, these men served with professionalism and bravery on the battlefields of World War II.
Membership in both the Los Angeles Chapter 8 and National Association is open to honorably discharged and retired veterans, as well as active-duty members of the United States Armed Forces, regardless of race, creed, and national origin. We are committed to improving the social conditions of veterans, families, youth, senior citizens in our community.
Our Mission
We support our veterans and community in several ways, focusing on improving their social conditions and maintaining the legacy of the Montford Point Marines. However, our work goes beyond that — we also provide educational support through scholarships and mentorship for the next generation. Throughout the year, the Association engages in activities that cater to camaraderie and give back to our local and national communities. These activities adapt to address the most pressing needs at any given time. Our association also visits various organizations and veteran support agencies, delivering food and much-needed items to those in need, including shut-ins during times of distress.
